Heidi's father worked as an Operations Manager at the company 4711. Her home was in her home town of Bergisch Gladbach a city of approximately 100,000 inhabitants just six miles east of Cologne. The former model from Germany, Heidi Klum is now an actor and a host on television. Klum's career as a model began in 1992 when she worked as a barmaid at a Dusseldorf club. The German women's magazine Petra was the sponsor of the show that was part of Thomas Gottschalk's late night talkshow. Klum had to compete against 25000 contestants from Germany and Europe for the chance to be among the three semi-finalists. In April 1992, she was awarded the $300,000.00 the top prize for modeling.
