The jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born the 20th of February 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson and the former Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy was the first child of six. Her father was a music lover and played records at home. This had a great influence upon her growing up. When she was young she had already developed the impression of her identity and what she hoped to accomplish. The choir at church helped develop the talent. She was a finalist on a talent show on TV in her 15th year and then began appearing regularly on the Tv show Skyline Melodies while still in high school. Around the same time when she was working, she began performing in nightclubs. Nancy graduated high school at 17 and attended Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a entire year. She then dropped out to pursue a profession as a professional musician. In 1956 she released her debut album in Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band with which she toured between 1956 between 1956 and 1958. Nancy released her first album with Dot Records while in the band. Cannonball Adderley advised her to move to New York to further her career, and she moved into The Big Town to begin her career in the year 1959. After just a few days the manager of Adderley was impressed by her voice and hired her. Agent Adderley signed her to Capitol in the year 1960. The year she made her debut was the same year. Guess Who I See Today? Capitol released five Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. She began by focusing on R&B however, under Adderley's influence, she embraced jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 helped to make her a star as well as her hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. Following that year, this led to her getting booked in the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
