Jazz singer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born on the 20th of February 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy was the eldest of six children. Nancy was extremely influenced when she was a young girl by the music her dad was a fan of and played in the her home. In her early years, she already had the impression of who she was as well as what she hoped to accomplish. The church choir encouraged her to develop the talent. In her early teens when she was 15, she got a spot on the talent show on T.V. and started appearing regularly in The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while still in High School. The same year, Nancy began working at nightclubs. Nancy completed high school at the age of 17 and then attended the Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a full year. She then dropped out to pursue a career as professional musician. In 1956 she released her debut album along with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. They toured together between 1956 and 1958. Nancy began recording for Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball Aderley suggested she move in New York so as to increase her chances of success. In 1959 Nancy made the move in The Big Town. She was hired to sing in The Blue Morocco Night Club in The Bronx, where Adderley's agent had seen her. The agent he was working with signed her up to Capitol in 1960. Her debut was that year. Guess Who Saw Today. Her records were successful and Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums in two years. Initially focusing on blues and rhythm under Adderley's influence, she began to move away from R&B and began to embrace jazz and torch songs. The 1962 group collaboration of Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley was instrumental in propelling her to prominence and she had her breakout hit Tell Me the Truth in 1963. The following year the release, she was being invited to New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
