Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

Nancy Wilson (jazz singer) was born to Olden Wilson who was an ironworker from Chillicothe on 20 February 1937. The mother of her child, Lillian Ryan worked as household helper. Nancy was the eldest of six kids. The father of Nancy was a music lover and played records with his children at home. It had a huge influence on her as a child. When she was just 4years old, Nancy was aware her destiny was to be a singer. Her talents were developed through singing in the church choir. When she was 15, she won an audition on television and started appearing regularly in The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while being in High School. The singer began performing in nightclubs at the similar age. Nancy was just 17 when she graduated highschool. After matriculating at Ohio Central State College - which is now Central State University - for one semester, Nancy left to be professional performers. Her first record was recorded in 1956 by the Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. The group was on tour with her between 1956 and 1958. As part of the group, Nancy recorded her first album in the studio of Dot Records. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she make the move into New York so as to increase her chances of success. In 1959 she moved in The Big Town. In just a few months, she was offered an offer to sing at The Blue Morocco Night Club on Boston Road in The Bronx the place where her agent heard her voice and agreed to sign her. Her debut on the recording stage came in the year 1960, with one single following an agreement with Capitol records. Guess whom I saw this morning. Capitol issued 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. After Adderley's influences the singer-songwriter shifted her focus away from R&B into jazz. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley together with their 1962 group helped her reach the top. She had her breakthrough smash Tell Me the Truth by 1963. In the year following it led to her getting booked in New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
